PLANNING INQUIRY MOVED FURTHER AWAY IN TIME AND SPACE

Mortlake Stag Brewery redevelopment planning inquiry is now postponed to December

The Planning Inspectorate have announced that the Planning Inquiry for the Mortake Stag Brewery (formerly pumping out Budweiser and before this owned by Watney) redevelopment which was due to start on 29th May has now been set  to open on Tuesday 5th November and sit for 8 days (Tuesday to Friday) until 15th November. It will then resume for up to 8 days 3-13 December (Tuesday to Friday sitting).

Mr Glen Rollings, the Planning Inspector initially appointed, is now in a position to resume his duties and has taken back the reigns from the Interim Inspector, Ms Katie McDonald.

The MBCG previously instructed Ms Kim Ziya from Landmark Chambers to represent us at the Inquiry.  The delay means that Kim will have to step back as she will  be on maternity leave in November. However, we have instructed one of her colleagues, Nick Grant, to take over her brief.

The Mortlake Brewery Community Group (MBCG) is very grateful to Kim for all she has done preparing  the community’s case so far. We send her our good wishes for the future.

Why is the planning inquiry to be held in Twickenham?

We were pleased to note that the interim Inspector, Ms Katie Mcdonald has asked Richmond Council (who is responsible for providing the venue for an Inquiry)  to give further thought to where it might take place. MBCG, West London River Group and local residents were all concerned that the Inquiry was due to be held at The Exchange in Twickenham, over 3½ miles from Mortlake. Additionally, the lack of a PA system and hearing loop was also a matter of concern for the Inspector. She asked  that the inquiry is live streamed from the new venue.  Ms McDonald felt it necessary to remind the  Council that they follow Government guidance on public inquiries of this nature. See the guidance here > Public inquiries; Hearings and Examinations – venue and facilities requirements – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

The MBCG hopes that the Council take note and now have enough time to organise an accessible venue local to the residents on our side of the river.
