MBCG on target to challenge the planning inquiry from 29th May

May 19, 2024

STOP PRESS

THE PLANNING INQUIRY HAS BEEN UNAVOIDABLY DELAYED. IT IS NO LONGER STARTING ON WEDNESDAY 29 MAY. WE HOPE IT WILL BEGIN ON JUNE 4TH BUT THIS HAS YET TO BE CONFIRMED. WATCH THIS SPACE FOR FURTHER UPDATES!

Thank You, your support means we can keep up the fight

A big thank you to everyone who has donated to our crowd-funding campaign to secure legal representation and expert advice at the forthcoming Mortlake Stag brewery planning inquiry. We have reached our target and have instructed Kimberley Ziya from Landmark Chambers (pictured with Peter Eaton, Co-Chair) who will  put forward our case to the Planning Inspector, Mr Glen Rollings. The Inspector will consider all the evidence before making a  final decision on the current plans.

More about the inquiry

Richmond Council has finally published details about the Planning Inquiry and issued a public notice. The Inquiry starts on Wednesday 29th May  and is due to run over a 10-day period up to 14th June.

All material related to the inquiry can be viewed on Richmond’s website.  The arguments from all parties including the developer, the council and the GLA are set out in key documents. MBCG is also a party and our evidence is also listed alongside West London River Group who have appointed an advocate to represent them. The GLA, MBCG and West London River Group  are on the same side opposing the developer’s scheme.

It is  also possible to access documents and information from this far more user-friendly website Stag Brewery – Gateley which has been funded by the developers  with agreement of the Inspector and all parties.

Where will it be held?

The Council have sadly chosen to use the Exchange in Twickenham as the venue for the inquiry. We are very disappointed that an inquiry which so significantly  impacts on  Mortlake is to be held on the other side of the borough. This will make it more difficult for local people to attend the hearings in person. We understand that the proceedings will be streamed live but yet to have that confirmed.

Members of the public can attend the inquiry and also speak. This will be at the discretion of the Planning Inspector. We suggest that people attend the opening day of the inquiry on 29th May  and let the Inspector know if they wish to speak. He will ensure that everyone’s voice is heard within the scope of a complex inquiry involving many expert witnesses.

Our witnesses

MBCG have 4 expert witnesses who will appear at the inquiry. They will cover design, planning, the school, transport and heritage. We are very grateful to  Peter Eaton, Geoff Woodhouse, Howard Potter and Dorian Crone for preparing their Proofs of Evidence (which  are available online) and their willingness to expose the serious flaws of the present scheme on behalf of our community.

We will post further updates on this site and X (formerly Twitter) @brewerymortlake. Please sign up for our regular emails if you have not done so already.
