A message from our Co-Chairs
Lots of Mortlake, Sheen, Barnes, Chiswick and Richmond local residents ask us this question as we go about our business in Mortlake and East Sheen and the truth is nothing much has changed since we posted an update in December last year (see FURTHER CONSULTATION ON THE BREWERY SCHEME).
The two planning applications, Application A – Ref 22/0900/OUT (for redeveloping the whole Stag Brewery site in Mortlake) and Application B – Ref 22/0902/FUL (for the controversial secondary school) have been lodged with Richmond Council. Planning officers are reviewing both applications and hopefully taking on board the community’s comments from yet another consultation that ended in January. No date has been set for the Planning Committee to decide the applications!
MBCG at the LBRUT committee meeting on education
We continue to be opposed to the secondary school on the basis that it is not needed locally and it will significantly drive down how much affordable housing can be built on the site. The Council are still determined to go ahead with the school despite a group of us making strong representations at the Education and Children’s Social Committee in March. Film production at Mortlake Brewery
In the meantime, Reselton Properties have temporarily leased some of the site to a film production team who are making a TV drama series set in Victorian London. Funded by Disney, the drama is called One Thousand Blows and depicts the trials and tribulations of the boxing world in the Victorian era. The series by Steven Knight who wrote the TV series Peaky Blinders,stars Stephen Graham, Malachi Kirby and Erin Doherty. The producers have built an incredible outdoor set to recreate Victorian London and used the back of the Maltings building as a grim-looking workhouse. Filming is taking place until the end of December. Read more about the series here.
