We had a small but significant victory yesterday. As a result of MBCG’s lobbying the Mayor of London has agreed to postpone the Hearing to consider the revised scheme. It was scheduled for Thursday November 26th. Our two Co-Chairs, Peter Eaton and Francine Bates met with John FInlayson, Head of Development Management,Development, Enterprise & Environment this week. We expressed our strong concerns that the new scheme of 1252 units, adding increased heights to residential blocks was being rushed through the planning process . They pointed out that developers had failed to produce adequate detail on the proposals including a failure to take into account the long-term closure of Hammermsmith Bridge.
We argued that further consideration and effective engagement with the community was vital to ensure that the site is not over-developed, harming Mortlake for ever.
We are delighted that this message was heard and we now have more time to engage with the Mayor’s team before a Hearing takes place. We expect another round of consultations particularly focusing on traffic and transport mitigation to be announced shortly. It is seems unlikely there will be a Hearing much before the end of the year.
