You may have received a letter from the GLA acting on behalf of the Mayor of London about the 6 week consultation on revised plans for the Mortlake Brewery.
Our core group has met to discuss the plans. We are very disappointed that the developers, Reselton Properties, have increased density, bulk and height of the buildings. The scheme is now significantly unsustainable at a time when we need more space and clean air as a community – not less.
The number of units has increased from 893 units to 1252 which is a 40% increase.
Building heights have been increased by 1-3 floors. Only 3 blocks are unchanged. Two of the blocks on either side of the proposed Green Link from Mortlake Green are now 10 storeys.
The scale of what is proposed, combined with the loss of the sports field, a new secondary school and the long-term closure of Hammersmith Bridge will change Mortlake for ever, creating traffic gridlock. An increase of new residents of this proportion will increase pressures on local roads, transport and health infrastructure to an intolerable level.
While we welcome additional affordable housing across the site and a reduction in some parking spaces, the scheme falls well short of our Community Plan.
The Core Group of the Mortlake Brewery Community Group is examining the revised plans which you can find on the GLA website here. As you will see there are many documents that have to be looked at. We are working on a detailed summary of the proposals and will post this on the website next week.
In the meantime, you can contact the GLA with your comments by email at this address Theformerstagbrewery@london.gov.uk
The deadline for comments is Saturday 27th September. The public hearing to consider the revised scheme will take place on 26th November online.
