Consultation responses are in, show transportation and pollution issues buried by Stag Brewery developer
Thank you to all those who responded to the latest Mortlake Stag Brewery redevelopment transport consultation. Many people and local groups responded.
In responses we have seen, the proposals put forward by the developers have been universally rejected as inadequate, flawed and misleading. The documents submitted do not address the increase in traffic generated by the enlarged scheme or the worsening air quality that will arise. Three other major points come through in all the responses we have seen:
- The developers make unsubstantiated assumptions about the restoration of Hammersmith Bridge even though no agreement has been reached on funding or rebuilding programme
- There is complete disregard for the development impact on traffic and pedestrians at the Sheen Lane level crossing despite Network Rail stating that a radical solution would be needed there
- The analysis to justify the proposed removal of on street parking to accommodate a bus lane on the Lower Richmond Road shows a complete lack of local knowledge and actual parking supply
Below are the responses from MBCG written by Howard Potter, our transport adviser and Emma Jack, our air quality adviser:
- The MBCG full transport response (link) substantiates the points above –for instance Reselton, the developer for the Mortlake Stag Brewery, foresees only 326 additional cars onto Mortlake High Street and Lower Richmond Road (Watney Road) whereas the MBCG estimates it would be 1.7x more, at around 578
- The MBCG response on air quality (link) shows the developer hasn’t modelled the impact on air quality nor has attempted to mitigate increased pollution, concludes it is the duty of the GLA to investigate
Tim Catchpole, Chairman of the Mortlake with East Sheen Society (MESS) also submitted a detailed letter and a slide presentation on the cumulative impact of recent and current housing developments, including 8,000 units in Brentford:

Will Sadiq Khan and Jules Pipe rubber-stamp the developer’s flawed proposal?
The GLA planning team will consider all the responses received on this consultation and those previously and make their recommendations to the Mayor, Sadiq Khan and his Deputy, Jules Pipe. This will form the basis of a report which will be considered at a public planning hearing, yet to be arranged. We anticipate this will be now held sometime after the Mayoral and GLA elections which are taking place on May 6th.
